| Volleyball in Iraq and Egypt |
 |
The USYVL has been busy donating volleyballs and volleyball nets to Iraq and Egypt to help in opening volleyball programs that will help the youth and adults in the ravaged areas. They have donated over 150 volleyballs and 6 volleyball nets. They also supplied over 150 pumps and needles as well.
In Iraq, the USYVL was lucky enough to get in contact with Dave Mellon, part of the military support committee of Laguna Niguel. He informed us of a great opportunity that the USYVL could be part of. The marines will provide volleyballs and volleyball nets to the youth and adult leagues they have established in Al Qaim Region, Al Anbar Province, Iraq. The Laguna Niguel committee has high hopes for the citizens implementing the league and improving the lives of the residents.
The USYVL is also working in part with the program Athletes in Action. Athlete’s in Action is a sports ministry group that promotes their mission of building spiritual movements everywhere through the platform of sport.
A current site director from Valencia, Lisa Kennedy, got in contact with a gentleman named Mike Buchannan from her church group who is part of Athletes in Action. Mike and the supporters of the program hope by visiting Egypt and bringing volleyballs and volleyball nets to the kids will help kids in participating in sports and learning the game of volleyball.
The USYVL is proud to be part of two great missions that will in turn hopefully take away the disruption of war. By building a standing ground youth and adults can play and learn volleyball and come together as a team. In turn letting others know what volleyball has done for them. Who would have ever thought that one “Park N Sun” net and a volleyball would help to bring future world peace? |

Get Involved |
We are still in need of volunteers to take on the positions of site director, clinicians, coaches, asst. coaches, and registration helpers at various sites.
Getting involved is simple and we provide training and tons of support. Volunteering is a great way to help your site grow and run smoothly. It is also a great way to socialize with your child. If you are interested in any of these positions, contact the national office at 1-888-988-7985 or register online at www.usyvl.org.

So please don’t throw away the box, since there is a confirmation packet inside which contains the parent meeting and coaching clinic dates and times, season schedule and other really important information! Once in your possession, the volleyball should be marked with the player’s first name initial and last name (i.e. V. Sanchez). No full names or phone numbers on the volleyballs please!

USYVL Favorite Player Moment!!!
The USYVL national office would like to congratulate Emina Hamzic from the USYVL Mountain View site for being the favorite moment from a USYVL player. We would like to Congratulate Emina for her great story and here it is below for everyone to read...
(Emina Hamzic, Player, Mountain View. CA.) My favorite moment was when my team (white crush) was playing our second to last game of the season. The other team hit the ball straight over the tip of the net, at what seemed 50 miles and hour. It went straight over the tip of my fingers, as I was setter, then I panicked because one of our least skilled players was in the balls way. I quickly thought of running after the ball myself and try to save it, but I regained control of myself and I suddenly remembered that I have to trust in my teammates. The girl in the back quickly bumped the ball high enough for another girl to spike it. However, she lost sight of the ball for a moment and hit it directly into the net. Smack!! As I was trying to alter to my brain what had just happened, I totally forgot about the ball. As I saw the ball nearly touch the ground my teammate sprung up and dived for the ball; she amazingly hit it. Oh No!! It was just barely touching the top of the net. I crossed my fingers. “Please go over, please go over!!!” I was whispering to myself. The ball hit the tip and I sighed “It’s not going to go over”. I turned around hoping to not catch a glimpse of the ball as it hit the floor on our side. “AAAAaahhhhh” My whole team was screaming. “WE GOT THE POINT!!” Sadly, our team did not win, but I will always remember that moment.
