#givingtuesday

The desire to give, to help, resides in the core of all human beings. We see it in the wake of natural disasters around the world, which give rise to inspired charity efforts and an outpouring of support from people often thousands of miles away. The holiday season is a time for giving and charity not inspired by disaster, but by giving to those who have so little in a time when every little bit counts.

Tuesday, December 3 marks the second annual #GivingTuesday, which arose in 2012 as an offshoot of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, two of the biggest shopping days of the year. #GivingTuesday encourages communities to get involved with nonprofit organizations by donating money and volunteering.

#GivingTuesday is a day in which Americans are encouraged to give to non-profit organizations or volunteer their time to other community organizations. In its inaugural year, for-profit companies stepped in and encouraged their employees to get involved. In some cases, huge giving efforts were funded by for-profit companies. Analysts estimate nearly $10 million was donated in #GivingTuesday’s inaugural year.

Behind the all of the laughter, smiles, digging, setting, and spiking, the United States Youth Volleyball League’s (USYVL) mission to provide every child an opportunity to learn the sport of volleyball in a fun, safe, and supervised environment thrives on the charity and good will of corporations, individual donors, and everyday people.

Give a child in need an opportunity this #GivingTuesday by donating $25, $50, $100, or any amount you can comfortably give. Each donation, no matter the amount, goes a long way to ensuring that those in need have the same opportunities as those of privilege.

With so many of the real reasons for the holiday season shrouded amidst the hustle and bustle of a shopping season that begins earlier each year, many families strive for the restoration of the spirit of family, togetherness, and good will.  #GivingTuesday is the perfect way to embrace these values.

Donors supporting USYVL this year can be assured that their gift will make a difference for a child  through healthy activity, building of self esteem and teamwork.

#GivingTuesday donations can be made on the USYVL website at www.usyvl.org. Share your support on Twitter and Facebook by using hashtags for #GivingTuesday and #USYVL. Your support is very much appreciated this holiday season.
