Jessica Pruitt & USYVL Summer Camps

Jessica Volleyball

When Jessica called regarding coaching for the first season of USYVL Summer Camps, we had no idea how much she loved to coach! She does it with a passion, and the kids love her energy and enthusiasm.

A resident of Granada Hills, Jessica spent her Summer working the USYVL Summer Camps. She started in Thousand Oaks and continued to travel to Palos Verdes, Long Beach, Ventura, Irvine and finished in Moorpark. Wow, what a drive!

Jessica attends California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks where she plays for the women’s volleyball team. Let’s wish her good luck this season!

USYVL Volleyball Clinics

In the beginning of USYVL, school volleyball clinics were a great way to introduce more kids to the sport of volleyball and USYVL. Not only did the kids get to experience the fun, but also the fundamentals. Physical education teachers also benefited through learning how to teach kids the fundamentals of volleyball.

USYVL will be once again offering free volleyball clinics to local schools in the community. If you would like to bring a volleyball clinic to your child’s school, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Coaches Corner

The Down Ball Drill, including a spike, is one of my favorite drills to improve vision of the ball and controlling several factors at the same time.

Place 3-5 balls next to you in the front middle of the court, in the setter’s position. The player/s should position themselves in the middle of ½ of the volleyball court, in the left back passing position.

Hit the ball in a downward motion, with the goal of getting the player to dig the ball back to you so that you may set it. If the dig is out of your reach and you are not able to set it, have another ball ready and toss it to the hitting area so that the player can still get the repetition of spiking the ball. 15 minutes of repetition is ideal and the more balls the more touches the player is able to get!
