USYVL Merchandise

Hold on a minute, do I see USYVL merchandize!

Every year we get the same question, do you have any USYVL merchandise besides the t-shirts?

Well now we do! It’s available on the USYVL web site just by clicking on Store.

We have a great selection from sweatshirts, caps, shorts, long sleeve t-shirts and sweatpants.

They are available in different colors and you can choose from the traditional USYVL logo or “Volleyball Starts Here” logo.

Volunteer Spotlight - Valencia

Site Director Theresa Basore grew up in San Diego. She played some volleyball in High School and a little in college at SDSU, where she got a B.A and Masters.

She was a teacher and then a school administrator for 8 years.

In 2001 they moved to Virgina and in 2004 they moved to Santa Clarita. Three of her four kids play USYVL, the youngest not old enough yet.

Originally, she volunteered to be a registration helper, thinking she only had to help on registration day! Theresa has been a Site Director for the last 6 seasons!

1) Which is the most interesting or exciting place you have traveled to?

Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks of North Carolina was exciting because we survived Hurricane Alex in 2004, while we were camping in our trailer on the beach. You take you a long tunnel, under the ocean to get there!

2) What is your favorite book?

The Bible

3) What is your favorite movie?

Somewhere in Time

4) Which place in the world would you like to visit?

I would like to visit Venezia, Italy to look up info on my ancestors.

5) Besides volunteering for USYVL, what else do you love to do?

I love baking, cross-stitching, water-skiing, karate and camping with my family or girl scout troop. I also enjoy volunteering for Metropolitan Educational Theater, where all of our kid’s perform at CSUN, Torrance, West Covina and Poway.

6) What is your favorite dessert?

Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie.

7) Why do you volunteer as a USYVL Site Director?

I love to see the players having so much fun, learning a new sport, while making new friends each season. It’s like a day at the beach! It’s amazing to see the young ones start out fairly uncoordinated and progress so much as they learn new skills. It’s also great to see some of the kids, like my son, go on to play at the high school level. I enjoy meeting people and have also made many friends among the wonderful parents, clinicians, and amazing volunteers!

Team Name Contest Winners

It was a close call, but the top 3 winners of the Fall 2010 season team name contest have been determined!

Coming in at 3rd place are the Moorpark “Can You Dig It”

Taking 2nd place are the Los Gatos “Volley Ollies“.

Taking the coveted 1st place are the Saugus "De-spike-able me’s"!

What do the winners get, some cool gift certificates to Baskin and Robbins!

How do I get involved?

It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

If you are looking to show off your organizational skills, volleyball knowledge or passion for youth sports, we would love to have you!

Coaching and assistant coaching does not require any prior volleyball experience, we provide training and a volleyball instructor at each site that will lay out the practice plans and demonstrate.

Registration Assistants help the Site Director in every aspect of running the site, as for the First Aid Administrator must be CPR and First Aid certified and is onsite at practices and games to make sure any first aid needs are taken care of.

The Site Director is the site administrator that is in charge of running the parent meeting, recruiting coaches and making sure that the site runs in the most efficient manner, while having FUN!

Don’t hesitate to volunteer!

You can sign-up on the USYVL web site at www.USYVL.org by clicking on Get Involved or give us a call at 1-888-988-7985.

Coaches Corner

Incorporating fun in your practices is a great way to change the pace and get more results from your players. King/Queen of the Court is a fantastic game that will work on all volleyball skills, speed up the pace of the game and make it fun for the kids.

Place 2, 3 or 4 players on one side, they will start as the Kings/Queens of the court and that side will always receive the serve. The remaining players will go to the other side and will form teams of 2, 3 or 4 players and this side will always serve.

The first group to challenge will serve the Kings/Queens of the court and their goal is to side out. If the serving team sides out, then they take the side of the Kings/Queens and they become the new kings of the court. If they do not side out, then the Kings/Queens get a point and get to stay on the court and side.

The object of the game is to stay on the Kings/Queens side court for as long as possible. The game can be played to 5, 7, 10 or 15 points, the higher the more degree of difficulty.
