Meet the New faces of the Programs Department!!!

The USYVL is expanding every year and now after ten years the USYVL has a programs department. It’s a great and exciting accomplishment because now the USYVL more than ever will be able to grow and expand more programs for kids to learn and play volleyball. The programs department will also be able to accommodate existing sites with questions or suggestions they may have for their site. The programs department has four fun and passionate people that are ready to keep growing the USYVL.

Here are some fun facts about them to get to know them even a little better:

Katherine Ahlers, Programs Assistant

Katherine Ahlers otherwise known as Kat has been with the USVYL for almost a year now and is witnessing the rapid growth of the USYVL programs. Kat is a great asset to the USYVL team. She works hard everyday by hiring great site directors and clinicians for all of our sites. I sat down with Kat and found out some of her favorite things.

Haps: Do you have any brothers and sisters?

Kat: Yes, Barbara, my older sister by three years.

Haps: What is your coolest hobby?

Kat: That's a toss-up between surfing and the volunteer work I do with large and exotic animals (mostly big cats) at the Wildlife Way station.

Haps: What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

Kat: I lead a pretty adventurous life, but I don't consider any of what I do crazy! :) Many people tell me that walking and handling mountain lions is crazy, but it's normal life for me!

Haps: What is the best thing about your job at USYVL?

Kat: The best thing is knowing that I'm doing my part to help kids develop an interest in athletics that they will hopefully carry with them long after they've left our program.

Haps: What is your favorite restaurant and what is your favorite dish there?

Kat: I Love the Melting Pot, though it's not somewhere that I would want to eat at on a daily basis. It's a fondue place that serves several courses with each meal. The cheese appetizer portion and the chocolate dessert portion are my favorite courses.

Haps: Halloween or New Years Eve?

Kat: New Years Eve

Haps: Good cookies or good cake?

Kat: Cookies

Haps: Do you have any pets?

Kat: Yes, Junior, my cat that I've had for almost 16 years now

Haps: Starbucks or Jamba Juice?

Kat: Never go to either, but since I don't like coffee at all I'll have to go with Jamba Juice

Haps: The beach or the mountains?

Kat: The beach

Haps: What is your favorite movie?

Kat: I love movies so this answer changes frequently for me. A constant favorite are the old 1930's and 1940's Sherlock Holmes movies. I like to watch them whenever I feel like relaxing and vegging out.

Haps: What are your future goals or ideas at or for the USYVL Office?

Kat: I'd like to continue to see the organization grow and expand into new areas and reach out to as many kids as possible.

Haps: What do you like most about being in the Programs Dept?

Kat: My wonderful co-workers, of course!

Patrick Arnold, Programs Assistant

Patrick is the newest addition to the programs department team. He is eager to help in expanding and opening many sites so kids can learn and play the game of volleyball.
