USYVL Day Brings a Sea of Blue to Long Beach

Misty May with USYVL Family

USYVL Day at Long Beach was a tremendous success!

Each attendee received a "Volleyball Starts Here" t-shirt that soon became the talk of the event. The AVP pro's were wondering where all the kids with the blue shirts were coming from!

We would like to thank all the folks that attended the AVP Long Beach Event and showed their support for USYVL and professional beach volleyball.  It was truly a special experience for the kids to see how much work and dedication it takes to play the sport at a high level and what they can look forward to.

How Do We Look?

In case you haven’t noticed, the USYVL Website has a new look.

The web site went live on July 14 with a crisp new look. The layout makes it easier to navigate and find what you are looking for quickly, and we know how important that is with today’s busy schedules. The added features include a program finder, rotating photo gallery, and daily news.

Check it out!

You Make the Difference

Don’t forget to volunteer! Not only is it fun, but it’s rewarding to see how just a little of your time can impact your local USYVL program.

The easy part about volunteering for USYVL, is that you have a set schedule, which is the same as that of your child. For busy parents, this is key!

You can volunteer as a Site Director, Clinician, Coach, Assistant Coach, Registration Assistant or First Aid Administrator. It takes 2-3 hours per week during the season and it is so important to the success of your program. For information on Volunteer Positions go to and click on Volunteer or call the USYVL office at 1-888-988-7985.

Coaches Corner

Passing is one of the essential skills needed to play volleyball. Without a pass, the set and hit become virtually impossible. A great exercise to develop superior passing skills is the star drill!

You will need at least three balls for this exercise. First, stand by the net in the middle, Have the player start on the same side, towards the middle of the court by the back line. You will toss the ball to the middle, deep corner, angle, short, and return to the middle covering the areas mentioned earlier and continue on to the next side and back to the middle. The player should pass each ball from the designated areas to the middle with the goal of making passes that can be set.
