Dear USYVL Families,
I hope you had a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend!
It’s a pleasure to see smiles on the kid’s faces, coaches enjoying volunteering and parents supporting their kids at practices and games. It makes it all worthwhile!
We have a myriad of activities going on, from the closing of the Spring season, to USYVL Summer Camps and Leagues and getting ready for the Fall.
Get ready for some more USYVL fun!

Tom Hoff at Laguna Niguel

The Laguna Niguel Clinician staff had a great addition this Spring -Tom Hoff!
He is bringing his experience playing and coaching volleyball to the volunteer coaches and players at the Laguna Niguel USYVL. You might say that program is lucky!
Tom was a standout at Ohio State and then Long Beach State where he was the AVCA First-Team All-American in 1995 and 1996.
To top it off he was one of the most dominating players on the United States Men's National Team and won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics. |

USYVL Opens in Huntington Beach
Every year we get requests from folks in the Huntington Beach area wanting a program in their community. Unfortunately, field availability was always an obstacle until this Fall 2011!
Huntington Beach USYVL will open on Wednesday, September 14 at Huntington Central Sports Complex.
We look forward to bringing another quality USYVL program to the community of Huntington Beach. |

Coaches Corner
by Veronica Sanchez
The Double Max game is for the 9-10, 11-12 and 13-15 divisions.
Traditional pass, set and spike.
Rally score to 25, the team must win by 2 points. A point is awarded on every rally; the team that wins the rally earns the point.
Players have a two consecutive serve maximum. Team, whose player is serving, has to earn the second serve. After the second serve, regardless of which team won the rally, the serve turns over to the opposing team.
Serving from inside the end line is allowed, but no further than the middle of the court is permitted for the underhand serve only.
The ball may not hit the floor during play.
Each team remains on their designated side until the long whistle ends the game. If a game to 25 is complete before the whistle is blown, switch sides and begin another game until the long whistle ends the game.
The Let Serve is a serve that hits the net when the ball is put in play and lands in your opponent’s court.
Examples:
A player serves over the net and his/her team wins the rally. The serving player’s team earns a point and a second serve. The player serves over the net again and his/her team wins the rally. The serving player’s team earns a point, but the serve automatically turns over to the opposing team’s next server.
